“Viaggio nella Luna” è un film fantastico del 1902 realizzato da Georges Méliès. Assieme al Viaggio attraverso l'impossibile è uno dei suoi film più famosi, forse il capolavoro. Il film è una parodia basata liberamente sul romanzo di Jules Verne “Dalla Terra alla Luna” e su quello di H. G. Wells “I primi uomini sulla Luna”. È considerato il primo film di fantascienza e una delle scene iniziali del film, la navicella spaziale che si schianta sull'occhio della Luna (che presenta un volto umano), è entrata nell'immaginario collettivo ed è una delle sequenze che hanno fatto la storia del cinema.

Un gruppo di persone sono in piedi lungo la piattaforma della stazione ferroviaria di La Ciotat, in attesa di un treno. Il treno arriva da lontano, finché alla fine si ferma alla piattaforma. Le porte delle vetture si aprono e gli assistenti aiutano i passeggeri a scendere e salire. La leggenda narra che, quando il film fu mostrato la prima volta, il pubblico fuggì dal caffè in preda al terrore, perché convinti che il treno avesse potuto investiti. Anche se si pensa che la leggenda non sia altro che un racconto promozionale, gli spettatori rimasero certamente sbalorditi dalle capacità del cinematografo.

A man is increasingly unnerved by a mysterious portrait. Based on a story by Nikolai Gogol, the film is thought to have run about 45 minutes long, but only an 8 minute fragment is known to have survived.

A film from Méliès has him playing a magician who does a few tricks including making a woman disappear.

Georges Méliès' adaptation of Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" is most distinguished, today, for being a color film of the classic story. Color was rare in 1902 (and many years after) as non-tinted color has to be hand painted on the film; this was an arduous task. Also notable is the film's short running time of approximately five minutes. Much of the original work is not covered, but viewers were expected to be familiar with the story, and enjoy the filmed highlights. There are a couple of scenes missing; according to contemporary reports, Gulliver's shipwreck was certainly included. You can do a lot in a few minutes, as Mr. Méliès includes a re-make of his own "Une partie de cartes" (1896), which already looked like something previously covered by the Lumière Brothers.
