以1987年全斗焕独裁统治下发生的六月民主抗争运动为背景。1987年1月，一名参加学运的大学生在被警察拷问的过程中死亡，朴处长 (金允锡 饰) 下令将尸体火化以毁灭证据。另一边厢，当日值班的崔检察官(河正宇 饰) 拒绝执行任务，并要求解剖验尸，结果显示大学生被拷打致死。经调查后，记者尹尚三 (李熙俊 饰) 亦意外发现大学生的死因是窒息，事情因而在各大媒体上曝光。种种证据矛头均指向涉事的警察，官方却依然坚持他只是死于突发心脏病。当朴处长越想把真相隐瞒，事情就越一发不可收拾……
安卡自小跟父亲迈克生活，她从没见过母亲。迈克出差前提醒安卡别忘付抽屉里的房租和电话费账单。安卡却在抽屉里发现一封给自己的信，字迹陌生。她在树林里把信拆开，里面有一个白色信封，上面写着，“若我出事，请把它交给我女儿安卡”。 迈克回到家，安卡告诉他，自己看了母亲留给她的遗书，上面说迈克不是她的父亲。那天晚上，他们谈了很多。安卡说自己一直都在渴求迈克，只有和他在一起才能幸福。迈克承认看到安卡同男朋友在一起很难受。安卡希望改变这种父女关系为情侣关系，她脱下衣衫，但迈克并没有抱她，而是把衣服盖在她身上。 第二天清晨，安卡被开门声惊醒，她从床上跳起，发现迈克已走。安卡从窗口大声呼喊迈克，说信的内容是她自己虚构的，她根本没有拆开母亲的遗书。回家后，他们把那封信烧了，只留下一角：“亲爱的女儿，我要告诉你，迈克……”。其余皆被烧了。
