Sugestivní a stísňující atmosféru filmu, který s nadsázkou hovoří o psychologické závislosti v partnerském vztahu, umocňuje až halucinační kamera a podporují vynikající herecké výkony Laurenta Lucase a Loly Dueñasové. Děj filmu je inspirován novinovou zprávou, která v letech 1947–49 šokovala celou Ameriku.
