Příběh začíná 31. srpna 1939, kdy hlavní hrdina Franek přijíždí na německou hranici jako součást čety, která má posílit obranu železniční stanice. Usne však na stráži a jeho puška náhodně vystřelí. Franek je přesvědčen, že tím rozpoutal válku. Dostává se do německého zajetí, ze kterého se mu podaří utéct, ale tím jeho kuriózní válečná dobrodružství zdaleka nekončí...
