Outskirts of Moscow. A girl comes to an unfamiliar apartment to look after a dog. After a while, she realizes that the owner of the apartment has disappeared. She finds herself into a series of people that have been taking care of the dog for years in that same apartment, creating a weird community around this strange absence of the owner.

People is a film shot behind closed doors in a workshop/house on the outskirts of Paris and features a dozen characters. It is based on an interweaving of scenes of moaning and sex. The house is the characters' common space, but the question of ownership is distended, they don't all inhabit it in the same way. As the sequences progress, we don't find the same characters but the same interdependent relationships. Through the alternation between lament and sexuality, physical and verbal communication are put on the same level. The film then deconstructs, through its repetitive structure, our relational myths.

Andrzej Leszczyc (J. Skolimowski), skreślony z listy studentów tuż przed magisterium, stawia się 1 września przed komisją poborową do wojska, deklarując chęć odbycia służby. Budzi to zdziwienie komisji, gdyż zarówno on, jak i inni za wszelką cenę chcą jej uniknąć. Jego małżeństwo wisi na włosku, a pies musiał być uśpiony. Pozostało mu kilka godzin do odjazdu pociągu z innymi poborowymi. Wędruje przez miasto, przypadkowo spotykając dawnych kolegów i nową, łudząco podobną do żony, dziewczynę (E. Czyżewska). Zgrywa się, nawet telefonując do własnej matki. Jak się wydaje, szczery jest tylko w sondzie ulicznej, kiedy na pytanie, czy chciałby polecieć w kosmos, odpowiada twierdząco, bo zdarzyłoby się wtedy coś nieodwołalnego. Mozaika scen i min wywołuje wrażenie wyobcowania ze strumienia życia, ale zarazem niechęć do samookreślenia.
