در آینده‌ای بسیار دور، بخش بزرگی از جهان توسط جنگل‌هایی با گیاهانی که مانند قارچ‌های سمی هستند و از خود گازی بسیار سمی پخش می‌کنند بلعیده شده است. انسان‌هایی که باقی مانده‌اند نزدیک این قارچ‌های سمی و هیولاهای حشره مانند بسیار بزرگی که این جنگل‌ها زیستگاه آنها است، زندگی می‌کنند. یکی از حکومت‌های انسان‌ها به نام دره باد است که در صلح و آرامش زندگی می‌کنند آنها پرنسس خود بنام Nausicaa و پدرش که پادشاه این کشور است را بسیار دوست می‌دارند، اما آرامش آنها زمانی که با دسیسه‌های کشور همسایه که کشوری بزرگ و طالب جنگ است رو به نابودی است. اما Nausicaa پتانسیل‌های پنهانی دارد که ممکن است سرنوشت این سرزمین را تغییر دهد.

In a small town in Nazi-occupied Slovakia during World War II, decent but timid carpenter Tono is named "Aryan comptroller" of a button store owned by an old Jewish widow, Rozalie.
