13 Driver's Licenses is the first part of a documentary film diptych by Ryo Terao about the lives of Jews in the small Bavarian town of Lichtenfels. The film tells the story of the discovery several years ago of 13 driver's licenses in the local government office: the documents were confiscated in 1938 from Jewish drivers. A group of local high school students, along with their teacher, attempt to trace the fate of the owners of these licenses, eventually finding out that five of them, along with their family members, were killed, while eight managed to escape. The investigators get in touch with the descendants of the victims and invite some of them to the town where the lives of their ancestors were tragically cut short. Ryo Terao's film has been screened at film festivals around the world and has received numerous awards.
The Old Testament tale of Samson and Delilah gets a new twist as director Corina van Eijk brings the beloved Saint-Saëns opera to the screen in this film starring Charles Alves da Cruz as the legendary strongman, and Klara Uleman as the temptress who brings about his downfall. The Israelites are engaged in a bloody battle against the Philistines, and Samson is the influential judge and powerful warrior who has given the war-weary Israelites a newfound sense of hope. That hope is soon diminished, however, when the irresistible Delilah ensnares the long haired Samson in a hopeless web of passion. Samson draws power from his flowing locks, and without them he is but a mortal man. The only way to defeat Samson is to shear his formidable mane, and the temptress Delilah is the only one capable of getting close enough to do so.

Astrophysicist Jean Surdej brings a small group of teenage pupils on a trip to the Lofoten islands in northern Norway, for a very special class on the solar system. Using the geography of the archipelago to illustrate the distances between the planets, they journey through space by car and ferry, with the picturesque landscapes standing in for the black emptiness that surround the heavenly bodies. A masterstroke of both pedagogy and filmmaking, Children of Stars is a captivating documentary about humanity's place in the grand scheme of things.
Brent Carver stars as the swashbuckling Pirate King in the famous Stratford Festival's rollicking production of the Gilbert & Sullivan classic that pits British bobbles against unlikely pirates on the Cornish coast. Sullivan regarded this operetta - a hit ever since its first production in New York in 1879 - as the best comedy he composed. He even said of his collaborator, "The libretto is ingenious, clever, wonderfully fun in parts and sometimes brilliant in dialogue - beautifully written for music, as is all Gilbert does." Indeed, audiences will find the music every bit a match for the lyrics, with the genius of the score lying in its parody of grand opera. Filmed in 1985 at the world-famous Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario.
