Jeho objevy jsou tak převratné, že se dá předpokládat, že Fantomas bude mít o stařičkého vědce zájem a postará se o jeho zmizení. K únosu skutečně dojde, ačkoli určit toho pravého profesora mezi třemi navlas stejnými je pro komisaře Juvea úkol nelehký. Rázný Cruchot se jí líbí, neboť jí připomíná jejího muže, a pozve jej k sobě na čaj. Cruchotův nadřízený, rotmistr Gerber, je Josefou také okouzlen a svému podřízenému závidí. Proto se spojí s Cruchotovu dcerou Nicole a vymyslí plán jak vznikající lásku překazit. Nejenže se však Nicole s Josefou spřátelí, ale navíc se všechny Gerberovy pláni obracejí proti němu.
