Blíži sa zima a naši kutilovia Pat a Mat to nemôžu nechať len tak, a o to viac ak ich “zaskočí“ snehová nádielka. Ako si poradia s vianočnou výzdobou ich nových domov a aké vianočné darčeky si podarujú pod vianočným stromčekom? A majú vlastne naši majstri vianočný stromček, taký ako ho poznáme, alebo si vyrobia svoj vlastný „kutilský“? Čo urobí Pat a Mat so snehovou kalamitou, ktorá sa im napadá na záhradu a aký nový stroj a riešenia vymyslia? Po zábave na snehu príde určite vhod horúca sauna, tak prečo by si ju rovno nepostavili. A čo tak vyrobiť si vlastný betlehem a osláviť Silvestra. Pre našich majstrov to nie je žiadna komplikácia prekážkou a žiadna výzva dostatočne veľká. Pat a Mat a ich zimné dobrodružstvá, tak to tu ešte nebolo!

The 16-minute film falls neatly into two nearly equal parts, separated by fades to and from black. Part one depicts a sunrise, a journey out to sea in a boat, then gulls flying around the boat while fish are cleaned, and finally the journey back and the reappearance of land.

Albie Thoms' Marinetti was the culmination of the synthetic environments that the UBU group had pioneered in Australia; festive public 'happenings' that combined the energy and volume of creative rock and jazz with the mesmeric effect of multi-dimensional lightshows. Another kind of culmination: Marinetti records most of the principal collaborators in the UBU film group, like Aggy Read and the Perrys. Uniquely valuable as a document of Australia's late 1960s counter-culture, the soundtrack provides the best indication of the unrestrained liberty that bands like Tully and the John Sangster Underground band some of whose members perform on this recording were famously achieving in their improvisations of the period.

Without question, this is an incredibly bizarre production. The revised storyline makes little sense, and there is a surprising amount of violence and sexual innuendo. However, the singers are superb, both vocally and in regard to their stage presence and acting, the orchestra plays beautifully, the chorus is wonderful, and the set is as clever as it is strange. It's definitely not for purists, or for someone new to this particular opera. But for someone who's seen Die Entfuhrung before, and is familiar enough with the original story to not miss it, watching Belmonte, Constanze, Blonde, Pedrillo, and Osmin embark on an entirely new adventure -- and push the boundaries of good taste -- is rather enjoyable.
