Chronologické zařazení tragických a dramatických chvil i humorných situací vyvolává v divákovi dojem, jako by listoval v záznamech o činech a životech, které by neměly být zapomenuty. Ústředními postavami jsou tři pohraničníci a věrní přátelé, do jejichž postav promítli tvůrci osudy stovek mladých mužů, střežících před padesáti lety naše hranice.

Na počátku zahlédne Marta svatbu své kamarádky Aleny. Potom jde do blízkého železářství pro kroužky na záclony. Po prodavaččině tradičním "nemáme" si nechá zavolat vedoucího Viktora Tomáše. Alena jim však prozradí, že si tentokrát (vdávala se již potřetí) nechala najít ideálního partnera pomocí počítače. Marta s Viktorem zapochybují, zda se k sobě vůbec hodí a navštíví proto kybernetický ústav, kde počítač zjistí, že jejich manželství se rovná hazardu.
