Uurastettuaan vuosisatoja ypöyksin siinä tehtävässä, mihin se oli alun perin rakennettu, WALL-E (lyhenne sanoista Wattipää Automaatti Likasyöppö Lastari - Ekokone) löytää elämälleen uuden tarkoituksen (krääsän keräämisen lisäksi), kun se tapaa viehättävän etsintärobotin nimeltä EVA.
