O filme entrelaça episódios da pacata vida familiar do jovem, passados num bairro operário de Nova Iorque, com as histórias das celebridades da rádio, na sofisticação de Manhattan - num ziguezague constante e hilariante, por exemplo, se o oceano Pacífico é menor do que o Atlântico, ou mesmo o que o pai faz para ganhar a vida.
