宇宙において最凶・最悪の存在であるサノスが、自身の野望の実現に向けて立ち上がる。それは宇宙で生きている者の半分を葬り去り、“バランスの取れた宇宙”を実現するというもの。サノスはそのために、6つそろえればその野望を叶えることができる“インフィニティ・ストーン”を集め始める。サノスはまず、ソーとハルクが乗ったアスガルドの宇宙船を襲い、やがてドクター・ストレンジらがいる地球のニューヨークにも襲い掛かる。
