I denne omgang får Quasimodo lyst til en kæreste, men beklageligvis forelsker han sig i en kvinde, der står i ledtog med en særdeles usympatisk tyv, som vil stjæle Notre Dames fornemste klokke, den juvelbesatte La Fidel. 2'eren, der er mindre end en time lang, er væsentligt dårligere tegnet end den første film, mens der til gengæld er færre sukkersøde sange. Historien er naturligvis ikke så tidløs og fascinerende som originalen, men på den anden side er det en klar fordel, at den er mindre barsk end etteren. Ondskaben er mere "børnevenlig", om man vil.
