時に1575年（天正３年）、長篠の戦いで甲斐の武田勢を破った織田信長は、翌1576年、その天下統一事業を象徴するかのごとき巨城を、琵琶湖を臨む安土の地に建築することを決意。設計及び現場の総棟梁として、熱田の宮大工・岡部又右衛門を総棟梁に任命する。「安土の山をまるごとひとつ、三年で城にせよ。」信長から直々の厳命を受け、後に行われた指図（図面）争いにおいても、金閣寺を建立した京の池上家、奈良の大仏殿建造を担った中井一門を破った又右衛門は、妻・田鶴や娘・凛、門下の大工たちの支えを得ながら、徐々に築城を進めていく。しかし、巨大な城を支えるためにはその主柱（大通し柱）に、これまでになく巨大な檜が必要であった。理想の木材は木曽上松にあると踏んだ又右衛門は、意を決して信長の敵方・武田勝頼の領国に危険を顧みず分け入っていく。一方、安土の作事場では新たな戦乱の暗雲が立ちこめ、又右衛門の帰還を待つ大工たちに戦地への出立を余儀なくさせる。
The plot revolves around two guys, Preet and Harpal, who are from a middle class family and are carefree and not concerned about their future. They keep making schemes to make themselves rich. Their father tries to teach them the facts of life and to be efficient and independent. Their mother however supports them in whatever they do no matter how frivolous. The film takes a hilarious turn when the boys meet two rich girls and make a plan to get involved with the girls to extract money from them. In order to do this they need to adapt to the girls lifestyles and borrow money from their father. The plot gets murkier when they decide to marry the girls. At a department store nearby, he sees an elevator lady being harassed by a couple of hoodlums. Goro decides to intervene. Unbeknownst to him, the hoodlums are Touyu-kai members – and the girl has strong ties with the opposing family.

It ends with news of another assassination – that of Jean Jaures on July 31st followed by the general conscription of August 1st, heralded by church bells across France. The allegory of the shipwreck is filmed at breakneck pace during the last five weeks before war breaks out.
